How and when to harvest broccoli to maximize returns?
The broccoli plant can be harvested before the flowering of yellow flowers, when the center head is firm, tight, and is deep green in color. Use a sharp knife and cut the head off, leaving several inches of stem on. Premature harvesting is known to make them taste and feel the best. Once the main head has been removed, keep on taking care of the plant, since there will be other smaller side shoots. These side shoots give you a harvest 2 or 3 times, so that you can prolong your broccoli growing period.
